SNAP COUNTRY USA WHY READ THE INTERNET ANYWHERE ELSE
DING
August 28
Oh I am so grateful to have worked at Y Camp. If you ever wonder if your life could be better, it can, if you just take
a summer of eating Sysco food and asking kids what the best and worst
part of their day is. Sometimes no one is there to ask a kid what they think about life and so it is nice to have that
conversation with them. This summer it was my job to ask children to eat all the food that they put on their plate, and
to teach 12 year old boys how to use Swiss Army Knives and make fires. Also this summer I taught nine year olds about
photosynthesis, and reminded them that they should not worry about anyone looking at their butt while changing.
I have decided that in addition to my tattoo that I will get, one day,
really, of a silhouette of a Douglas Fir surrounded by the words pacific wonderland - I will
also be getting a tattoo of every state thing that belongs to Oregon. This includes the Thunderegg, the Western Meadowlark, the
Marionberry, the Oregon Grape, the Hazelnut, the beaver, and the lyrics to "Oregon, my Oregon." I will make a standing policy
that I will not ever get a tattoo of Salem on me, ever, however. It is too ridiculous.
Tattoos aside, I love Oregon so much, it is a beautiful thing. Today I will leave it though to drive Kelly McElroy
on her way up to Vancouver, British
Columbia, where she will begin her tenure as a student of library science. Tomorrow is my 25th birthday also, and I will wake
up in Seattle to find myself so old. 25! 25 years old! I have been saying that I am almost 25 for so long that I am not as
freaked out about it as I would be otherwise.
I bought a jaw harp and this is it - Jimmie taught me about them, he showed me his harps when I still lived in Massachusetts.
He has an extensive and international collection.
