DING

May 28

Weas and I made this at the beach last weekend, after we ate steak and decided not to play Settlers of Catan. Ruling Catan is something that can be fun, but also just too time consuming and not amazing. Instead, we rule power ballads of 1990.

Ooh girl - I am done with my job now. That last week was Bananas. Like, every spare moment I had went not into packing my field study, not into supporting my high school students' teaching - no, it went into writing behavioral contracts and talking to students who were rude, and then just being like I FEEL LIKE MY BODY IS GOING TO IMPLODE.

So anyway, I still love my job. I got the best letter I've ever received in my LIFE last week from this girl named Valeria. It concluded with her being like "...And never stop being that HOT MESS that you know you are!" So I'm going to frame it. This girl, by the way, was ridiculously dehydrated on Monday. I had been hanging out at the nurse's office during recreation time because one of my student leaders had a fever and had to go home and I was like "Hey girl. It's ok, we're going to get through this." When really I was dying inside because that left me with three student leaders, when I should at the very least have five.

Then this girl Valeria shows up and she's like "I don't feel welllll." The nurse is like "How much water have you had today?" "None." "Uh huh. OK, you're going to drink all this water." So Valeria drinks a bunch of water and then, of course, she's like, "I think I'm going to throw up." And the nurse is like "OK. Just sit here for a little bit." I'm watching this go down. She looks like she's going to weep openly. I open my box of redirection tools. I'm like "Hey! Do you have any pets?" And she has a tiny dog. And I tell her about a dog I just met the other weekend named Banana, because when he was a puppy he was exactly the size of a banana. And then she threw up yellow barf EVERYWHERRRRRE! Actually, it was not everywhere. It was into a trashcan. But it was the most barf I've ever seen come out of one person. She just Kept Going. I was like YEAH GIRL! YOU GO. She was good on field study, but she was fabulous at barfing. Anyway. She wrote me the sweetest letter ever, and again, I'm going to frame it and put it on my wall. This is why I do my job.

Um, I got this ridiculous speeding ticket on Friday from the Tillamook police, and I am sad. I have never been pulled over before. It was dark, I thought I was on the highway, but apparently there was a mystery sign that said 30 MPH, because the next thing I know, I'm going 45 and there's the town of Tillamook, and a giant 25 MPH sign, and I hit the brakes, and then of course, flashing lights appear. I hope I do not have to pay that full $155. It will deeply sadden me.

PS: This song is so slammin', and I didn't even remember until Kathryn came over to my house last night and reminded me of it.
